OUR CURRICULUM

The Montessori Curriculum covers Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, Language, and Culture. Each curriculum area is made up of a specific set of learning materials that teach different skills and knowledge areas.  The Curriculum materials are displayed on low open shelves that invite children to interact and explore each material.  Children develop learning competence and confidence through repetition and practice using the Montessori materials.

PRACTICAL LIFE

Practical Life activities such as threading, spooning and pouring, help children to develop independence and self-help skills that prepare them for life. These activities also develop children’s fine motor skills, concentration, coordination, and confidence.

SENSORIAL

Sensorial materials such as the colour box and smelling jars provide children with opportunities to refine their senses of sight, touch, sound, smell, and taste. Developing sensorial skills allows children to better understand, clarify, and classify their experiences.

MATHEMATICS

The Mathematics Curriculum introduces children to abstract mathematics concepts through hands-on experiences. Materials such as the number rods and spindle box prepare children for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and fractions.

LANGUAGE

The Language Curriculum encourages the development of early literacy skills. Children learn phonics, letters identification and formation, writing, reading, and oral language skills by working with Montessori materials such as the moveable alphabet and sound boxes.

CULTURE

The Art and Culture area incorporates the study of Geography, Music, History, Botany, Science, Diversity, Sustainability and the Environment, as well as so much more. Through the study of Art and Culture children develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of their world.

EYLF

The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) is the National Curriculum for Early Childhood Education. It is designed to support children’s sense of being, belonging, and becoming. The EYLF focuses on play-based learning strategies that are linked to key learning outcomes.
